Große Backaktion / Big Backing

Letzte Woche sahen die Deutschstunden, die Sophia und ich unterrichten, etwas anders aus. Wir haben nämlich typisch deutsche Plätzchen gebacken - für rund 300 Leute. Das ergab dann in 12 Stunden Arbeit ca. 1000 Plätzchen bestehend aus Lebkuchen, Marzipanstollen, Vanillkirpfel, Orangenschokoplätzchen, Zimtsterne und Marillenringe. Unser Deutschkurs hat uns dabei großartig unterstützt sowie Kinder aus dem Jugendzentrum Baze, wo wir auch gebacken haben, und Deutschschüler der Schulen in Gulbene. Samstag (7.12.) standen wir dann verkleidet in der Nähe des Kulturzentrums und verteilten Tee und Plätzchen an die Leute, die der Veranstaltung des Christbaumschmückens beigewohnt haben. Nun ist der Hauptplatz hell erleuchtet und sieht wunderschön und sehr weihnachtlich aus und der hier liegende Schnee tut sein übriges. In rund 45 Minuten waren die an die 1000 Plätzchen vollständig aufgegessen. Deutsche Plätzchen sind hier also sehr beliebt.
Zeitgleich startete auch mein Workshop in der Grundschule in Tirza.Dort konnten die Schüler leere Konservengläser mit Servietten und Perlen verschönern. Ihnen hat das sehr gefallen und so war ich dann auch in Druviena, ein Nachbardorf, an der Grundschule und letzten Mittwoch auch in der Bibliothek von Tirza.

nearly all cookies, one big carton is missing here

Last week we had a kind of different German lessons. Because we backed typical  German christmas cookies - for around 300 people. In 12 hours of backing we had in the end around 1000 cookies of german kind of ginger bread, marzipan stollen, vanillkirpfel, orange choco cookies, cinnamon stars and apricot rings. Our German group helped a lot just like the kids from the youthcenter Baze, where we backed, and the German students of the schools here in Gulbene. At last Saturday (7th) we stood costumed near the culture center and gave our cookies and tea to the people, who attended the event for decorating the big christmas tree. Now the central square shines light and bright. It looks so beautiful and christmassy with the snow we had. in around 45 minutes all the cookies were gone. So, I guess German christmas cookies are very popular and also many people wanted our recipes.
At the same time my workshop started in the primary school in Tirza. There students could decorate empty jars with napkins and pearls. They had much fun and so I also went tothe primary school in Druviena, a village near Tirza, and to the library in Tirza.
