Lettlands Unabhängigkeitstag / Happy Birthday Latvia

So, endlich nach langer Wartezeit wieder ein Post. Am 18. November wurde hier in Lettland der "Latvijas Republikas Proklamēšanas Diena" - der lettische Unabhängigkeitstag gefeiert. Dafür sind wir morgens nach Riga gefahren um rechtzeitig für die Militärparade anzukommen. Auf der Straße-des-11.-Novembers standen die Menschen dicht an dicht um etwas sehen zu können. Da wir auch erst auf den letzten Drücker gekommen sind, konnten wir auch nicht viel sehen. Zuerst ist das Militär aufmarschiert, der Präsident hielt eine Rede, Salutschüsse wurden abgefeuert und nachdem der Militärmarsch fast zu Ende war flogen zwei Helikopter, die eine lettische Flagge trugen, über unseren Köpfen hinweg. Nach dieser Feierlichkeit machten wir uns auf um Mittag zu essen. Dazu fuhren wir mit der Straßenbahn, da alle öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel an diesem Tag kostenlos waren, zu Lido (http://www.lido.lv/eng/about_us/). Es war ziemlich voll und wir brauchten Ewigkeiten um unser Essen zu bekommen. Danach sind wir schleunigst zu Antonio und Selman gefahren, zwei Freiwillige in Riga, und sind dann zusammen wieder los um Sophia von der Bushaltestelle abzuholen und bei Wok To Walk etwas zu Essen. Um 19 Uhr hat der Präsident vor dem Friedensmonument eine Rede gehalten. Nach einem Abstecher in die Black Magic Bar Riga, die eine unglaublich tolle Atmosphäre hat, und einer "Black Magic Riga" Hot Chocolate, die wahnsinnig lecker war, ging es um 21 Uhr zur Akmens Tilts (Steinbrücke), wo wir mit Tausenden das abschließende Feuerwerk ansahen.

Während ganz Lettland den nächsten Tag wieder normal zur Arbeit ging, ging unser kleiner Urlaub noch weiter. Wir guckten uns noch ein bisschen Altriga an und besuchten das Okkupationsmuseum, das die Geschichte Lettlands und die Jahre der Besetzung darstellt. Danach trafen wir uns noch mit Freiwilligen aus Jurmala und saßen bis es Abend wurde im Teehaus, tranken Tee, saßen im zweiten Stock, wo man sich die Schuhe ausziehen konnte und auf bequemen Kissen die Welt draußen beobachten konnte. Dort war es so bequem und entspannt, dass wir beinahe eingeschlafen wären und gar nicht mehr aufstehen mochten. Jedoch hatten wir noch etwas sehr Wichtiges vor. Wir hatten nämlich Tickets für das Eis Hockey Spiel um 19:30 Uhr. Die Dinamo Riga Arena war nur 5 Minuten von der Wohnung entfernt, das heißt wir mussten nur vor die Tür treten und den Strom von Menschen folgen. Die Arena war riesig und am Eingang wurden erstmal alle Männer kontrolliert, okay zumindest wurden Sophia und ich nicht kontrolliert. Das Spiel war unglaublich und die Stimmung war unbeschreiblich, einfach Wahnsinn. Natürlich hat Dinamo Riga mit 3:1 über die Avtomobilist gewonnen! Und Mädels lasst euch sagen: Ich habe einen Ort gefunden, wo Männer länger an der Toilette anstehen müssen als Frauen!!!, was uns Anita vorher schon erzählt hat. Und auch nach dem Spiel war die Stimmung noch ausgelassen. Doch da wir am nächsten Bus um ca. halb 9 nahmen ging für uns der Weg direkt ins Bett.

So, finally after a long time, a new post. At the 18. of november the Latvians celebrate the Day of Independence, the "Latvijas Republikas Proklamēšanas Diena". So, early in the morning we went to Riga to watch the military parade. The street of the 11th November was crowded with people and we arrived right on time. Because of that we didn't see much. At first the military deployed, the president hold a speech and gun saluts were fired off. After the military parade were nearly over, two helicopter, which carried the latvian flag, flew over our heads. Afterwards we went by tram to our lunch place because at that day every public transport was for free. Lido (http://www.lido.lv/eng/about_us/) was also crowded with people and we needed a lot of time to get our lunch. After that we went to Antonio's and Selman's flat, two volunteers in Riga, and went together to the bus station to pick up Sophia and ate dinner at Wok To Walk. At 7 pm the president hold a speech at the freedom monument. After a short stay at the "Black Magic Bar Riga", which has a fantastic atmosphere, and a "Black Magic" Hot Chocolate, which was unbelievable delicious, we went to the Stone brigde, where a big firwork started at 9 pm. Thousands of people came to see it.

While everyone had to work the next day normally, our little trip went on. We visited several sights in Old Riga and visited the Occupation Museum. Afterwards we met some volunteers from Jurmala and together we spent our time until the evening in the tea house and drank tea, sat in the second floor in comfortable pillows with the shoes tooked off and watched the world outside. It was so comfortable and relaxed that we nearly slept and didn't want to get up. But we had also something very important this evening because we had tickets for the ice hockey game at 19:30 in the Dinamo Riga arena. this arena was just five minutes away from the flat we stayed. So, we just had to walk outside and follow the people. The arena was enormous and at the entrance every men were controlled, at least Sophia and I weren't controlled. The game was amazing and the atmosphere was unbelievable. Of course, dinamo riga won against Avtomobilist with 3:1! And girls let me tell you something: I have found a place where men has to wait longer for the toilet than women!!!, like Anita already told us. And also after the game the atmosphere on the streets around the arena was very well. But next morning we had to get the bus half past eight, so we went directly to our beds.
